The 140th China Import and Export Fair, better known as the Canton Fair, is underway in Guangzhou this October. With a total exhibition area of around 1.55 million square meters and more than 30,000 companies expected to participate, the event once again brings together Chinese manufacturers, suppliers and buyers from global markets. The first phase, held from October 15 to 19, focused on advanced manufacturing, while the second phase will run from October 23 to 27, followed by the third phase from October 31 to November 4.
This year's first phase covered industrial automation and intelligent manufacturing, processing machinery, general machinery, construction machinery, new materials and chemical products, new energy and many other manufacturing-related sectors. The focus reflects a broader change in Chinese exports: global buyers are not only looking for products, but are paying more attention to manufacturing capability, material quality, supply stability and long-term cooperation.
For companies working in the stainless steel supply chain, these changes are particularly relevant. Stainless steel may not always appear as the final product seen at an international exhibition, but it is widely used behind many of the machines, equipment and industrial products being supplied to overseas markets.
Global Buyers Are Looking Beyond Price
For many years, the Canton Fair has served as an important platform connecting Chinese suppliers with international buyers. Today, however, overseas procurement is becoming increasingly detailed. A competitive quotation is still important, but buyers also want to know whether a supplier can provide stable material quality, accurate specifications, suitable processing and reliable delivery.
This is also something we see in our daily stainless steel business.
When customers purchase stainless steel for industrial projects, discussions rarely stop at grade and price. Depending on the application, customers may need to confirm thickness and width tolerances, surface condition, edge requirements, coil weight, inner diameter and further processing such as slitting, cut-to-length, brushing or oil grinding. For engineering applications, mill test certificates, third-party inspection and customized packing may also become part of the order.
These details become even more important when materials are supplied for overseas projects. Once stainless steel has been processed into machinery, tanks, piping systems, food-processing equipment, building components or other finished products, correcting a material problem becomes much more difficult.
For this reason, long-term cooperation is usually built on much more than one successful quotation. Consistent quality from one shipment to the next, clear communication when specifications change, proper documentation and dependable delivery all influence whether a customer is willing to place the next order.
From Chinese Manufacturing to Long-Term Global Cooperation
One of the key themes of the 140th Canton Fair is the continued development of Chinese manufacturing toward innovation, green production and intelligent manufacturing. According to official information, the first phase places particular emphasis on advanced manufacturing, with products and technologies related to smart manufacturing, new energy and other emerging industries on display.
For stainless steel suppliers, this development also changes what customers expect from materials.
Different industries require very different stainless steel solutions. A customer producing food-processing equipment may focus on surface cleanliness and corrosion resistance. A chemical equipment manufacturer may pay more attention to material grade and operating environment. An engineering customer may require precise dimensions, processing and inspection before the material can enter production.
There is therefore no single specification that can meet every project.
This is why understanding the customer's actual application is increasingly important. Before supplying stainless steel, it is often necessary to confirm where the material will be used, how it will be processed and what conditions it will face during operation. Only then can the supplier match the appropriate material, dimensions, surface condition and processing method.
The Canton Fair demonstrates the scale and diversity of China's connection with global buyers, but international business does not end when an exhibition closes. Real cooperation continues through technical discussions, sample confirmation, production, inspection, packing, shipment and repeat orders.
For XuanYi Stainless Steel, our focus remains the same: to understand what overseas customers actually need and provide stainless steel materials that can meet the requirements of their projects.
Whether the customer is purchasing stainless steel for industrial equipment, chemical processing, construction, energy applications or other engineering uses, stable supply and practical service remain the foundation of long-term cooperation.
A trade fair may create the first connection, but reliable products and consistent service are what turn that connection into lasting business.
